How is it going in Shanghai Expo?

It is already more than 1 month away from the opening of World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. You may wonder how it is going there.

Here is a brief report from one of our colleagues who has just been back from Shanghai Expo.

1. There are more and more people visiting the Expo everyday. On 8 June, more than half million visitors entered the Expo, first time over half million on non-weekend days. Most of them are Chinese of course, since we have such a big population.

2. The China Pavillion is still the hottest pavillion and visitors need the reservation tickets to have the right to queue for it. To get the reservation tickets, visitors need to queue outside the entrance gates in the early morning before the gates open at 9:00. The tickets are handed over to visitors after they get through the gates and security check and are finished in 5-10 minutes everyday. After you get the reservation ticket, you need to go to China Pavillion at the appointed time shown on the ticket. e.g. You go to China pavillion at 14:00 as shown on the ticket, but as you get there, you still need to queue for about one hour to get in.

3. For most pavillions visitors can just follow the queques at each pavillion, which will take about 1-3 hours. Some queues are shorter than this. e.g. The Theme Pavillion is easier to access. Some can be much longer. e.g. Some people queued for 10 hours to visit the Saudi Arabia Pavillion. As far as we know, Taiwan Pavillion also hand over reservation tickets(in front of Taiwan Pavillion) when the it is open in the morning and tickets are finished very soon. It is said more pavillions are taking ways to let visitors to get the reservation first in order to avoid the long waiting time.

4. For groups, the 44 appointed travel agencies(including us) can reserve the entrance gate(and parking place) and can reserve the China pavillion visit in advance. But this is getting harder and harder due to the big amount of groups. Now they need to do this at least 20 days beforehand and still cannot always guarantee it reserved.

5. My collegue said she visited about 15 pavillions in 2 days; and she said it was worthwhile to pay this visit. Yes the pavillions are great.

We hope the Expo visit can be easier in future and will keep you noticed if there is any update.

best regards
HTC team
